ANDREAS
AZINAS
GREEK REGISTRAR
OF CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES |
The Greek Co-operative Savings Bank of Pafos Ltd. is the only
one in Cyprus that carries the name GREEK and its establishment
in that tumultuous period of the modern history of Cyprus
did -indeed -cover the huge void created in 1963.
The first General Assembly of the Greek Co-operative Savings
Bank occurred on the 12.10.1963 and the first Trusteeship
elected was consisted of the following:
| Achilleas Konstantinides |
President |
| Achilles Eleftheriou |
Member |
| Christodoulos Konstantinou |
Member |
| Diogenes Papadopoulos |
Member |
| George Miltiadous |
Member |
Diogenes Papadopoulos was appointed as the first Secretary
of the Savings Bank with a salary of 2 pounds per month and
Kostas Michael took his position in the Trusteeship.
After 1964 Kosta Michael was replaced -due to his death -by
Stefanos Maratheftis and in 1965 Nikos Geros replaced Christodoulos
Konstantinou who withdrew.
The results presented by the Greek Savings Bank of Pafos in
the first years of its operation was desperately poor, indicative
of the weaknesses and the many hardships that it confronted.

Andreas Tsappis took over as the new Secretary in May 1967,
replacing Diogenes Papadopoulos who withdrew, with a salary
of 3 Cyprus Pounds per month and the Savings Bank shared housing
with a bookstore which he himself kept and shared with radiologist
Polykarpos Nikolaides.
During the decade of 1970 the course of the Savings Bank
was ascending and after a decline in the 1980 period, due
to the known problems that the Co-operative Movement encountered,
the development of its operation and its progress were rapid
and swift.
TODAY
Today the Greek Co-operative Savings Bank of Pafos Ltd. is
the largest Co-operative credit Foundation of the district
of Pafos and is one of the largest of Cyprus with a turnover
that exceeds 60 million pounds, with savings of 55 million
pounds, share and reserve capital of 4 million pounds, realty
estimated to worth 2.5 million pounds, five department offices,
personnel of 30 persons, and 8.000 members.
The Greek Co-operative Savings Bank of Pafos has evolved
to a modern financial foundation, connected to Co-operative
Computer Company with the most accomplished computerization
systems that operate today in Cyprus and with a unique friendly
attitude, simplicity and effectiveness, offering a complete
spectrum of products and services that cover the multiple
needs of its member and non-member clients -and of the wider
public of the city and district of Pafos.
